UK-headquarted conditional access firm NDS has committed a further US$ 150mn to its operations in India over the next four years, adding to the US$ 120mn it has already invested in the country to date, company Chairman and CEO Dr. Abe Peled has revealed.
The company opened its first local R&D centre in Bangalore in 2000, and plans to apply the funds to both the R&D centre and commercial offices in the country. The Bangalore facility is used to design unique solutions tailored to the Indian market, as well as develop solutions for platforms around the world, with projects developed in Bangalore including interactive TV applications, such as games and multilingual electronic programme guides (EPGs). NDS reports that 26% of its employees around the world are now based in India, making its Indian operations the second largest in its global network.
“With our R&D centre and commercial support offices in Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai, NDS is committed to the Indian market and to developing and providing industry-leading pay-TV solutions for subscribers there," said Dr. Peled. "We are proud that within a few years our R&D centre in Bangalore has become central to our worldwide operations.”
The company's local operations now serve some big names in the local pay-TV market, including IPTV operator Bharti Airtel, cable MSO Hathway and DTH provider Tata Sky.
