May 4, 2007 – CopperGate Communications has been selected by Sonaecom, Portugal’s second largest telecommunications provider, to provide technology for the Clix SmarTV IPTV service.
CopperStream claim that its chipsets comply with the International Telecommunication Union G.9954 standards and that HomePNA 3 features guaranteed QoS as well as remote management and diagnostic features.
Portugal has one of the highest penetration rates of PayTV in Southern Europe and 1.4 million broadband access lines. Sonaecom delivers IPTV over an ADSL2+ infrastructure. Launched in April of 2006, Clix SmarTV was the first IPTV service offered in Portugal. According to Sonaecom, it remains the only IPTV service available to Portugal’s 3.6 million households.
“We selected CopperGate’s HomePNA 3 solution because it delivers the high data throughput and features that Sonaecom requires to successfully deploy consumer entertainment quality IPTV services throughout the home”, said Susanna Barbato, Sonaecom’s Marketing Director of IPTV “By operating over the existing coaxial home wiring, CopperGate’s proven IPTV-ready networking solution enables us to minimize installation cost and customer inconvenience without sacrificing the reliability and performance required to provide the quality of experience that our customers desire.”
Gabi Hilevitz, CopperGate CEO states, “Clix represents an exciting opportunity for CopperGate and the CopperStream home networking technology is a perfect fit for it. CopperStream was designed for IPTV triple play applications that require the reliability and coverage that can only be provided by a high quality wired home network.”
