About FASTWEB

FASTWEB is the main alternative fixed broadband telecom operator in Italy.

FASTWEB has developed a new generation of telecommunications networks and services providing a complete alternative to traditional telephone networks in the main metropolitan areas of Italy.

FASTWEB’s competitive advantage over other telecommunications companies, is based on its breakthrough technological solution: FASTWEB was the first company in the world to combine the extensive use of IP (Internet Protocol) for the integrated management of voice, data and video through packet-switching with its fibre optic and xDSL network. In this way the Company reached two objectives: firstly to offer its clients practically unlimited bandwidth and secondly to maximize the efficiency of its investments in infrastructure. With this network platform, FASTWEB was able to integrate previously separate functions and develop innovative, value-added services that can be used simultaneously over a single connection.

FASTWEB provides a wide range of services - telephony, broadband Internet connectivity, advanced video-communication (video-conferencing for businesses and video-telephony for residential customers), virtual private networks (VPN), audio and video streaming, business-to-employee (B2E), tele-surveillance, digital and interactive TV and Video-on-Demand services - to all market segments ranging from large, small and medium sized businesses, small offices and home offices to residential customers. Access to the end-user is provided directly through fibre optics (with Fibre-to-the-Home/Fibre-to-the-Office solutions) or through xDSL technology over unbundled lines.

About Iceland Telecom

Iceland Telecom provides all telecommunication, mobile and Internet services to private and corporate clients in Iceland. Its range of services and solutions includes mobile subscriptions as well as Broadband/DSL solutions, Live TV and Centrex network solutions.

Telecommunications play a vital role in Iceland. Although the coun¬try’s population is relatively small (286,000), its penetration rates for network-related products and services are among the highest in the world. Approximately 80 percent of Iceland’s households are equipped with a computer, and more than 70 percent are connected to the Internet. Demand is high and continuous.

Iceland Telecom serves both residential and corporate clients in this small but technologically advanced country. Given its customers’ enthusiastic adoption of information and communications technol¬ogies, the company continually seeks ways to maximize its network assets and add more value for consumers. It is not alone; increasing customer demands and fierce competition from cable and satellite service providers are compelling telecommunications companies everywhere to channel additional, high-value services–including broadcast entertainment–through their existing networks.

In early 2004, Iceland Telecom decided to expand its services to include Live TV and, now, Video On Demand–a move that would answer customers’ requests for bundled television, broadband and telephony services, and one that would signal Iceland Telecom’s entry into the world of “triple-play” (inte¬grated telephone, television and broadband offerings).
